My Story: Michael Watkins

My Story: Michael Watkins

Michael grew up surrounded by the real estate industry. His father worked in it primarily, and both his mother and brother had careers in related fields. With that background, it may have been inevitable that Michael would eventually find his way into the apartment industry. Other career paths never felt quite right.

Before discovering his ideal role, Michael explored several fields. He tried his hand in politics, ministry, and engineering, but none offered the mix of challenge and fulfillment he was looking for. That changed when he entered the apartment industry and realized he had found his place.

Today, Michael works as an Assistant Property Manager at Roscoe Properties in Austin. His job keeps him busy making important daily decisions and managing a wide range of responsibilities. “You have to wear a lot of hats,” he says when describing the variety of tasks involved in his work.

Michael remembers how difficult his job search was at first. “I couldn’t get an interview,” he recalls. Then he connected with Hire Priority, and everything changed. The team helped him land opportunities that his resume alone couldn’t open. He interviewed for four positions and received offers from three of them. Years later, as an Assistant Manager, Michael now recruits new team members through Hire Priority himself.

Although property managers don’t always receive the appreciation they deserve, Michael says his job is deeply rewarding. He recalls one experience in particular that stood out. During a staff shortage, he personally stepped in to make an apartment move-in ready. A client saw his effort and went out of their way to thank him for his hard work and dedication.

Michael believes his success may be partly “innate,” given his family’s background in real estate. However, his sharp eye for detail, high standards, and strong work ethic have also fueled his growth in the industry. Through persistence and passion, Michael has built a fulfilling career doing work he was meant to do.
